Bloaters complete home campaign with a solid win

After the disappointment of Easter Monday's defeat at Emerald Park the Bloaters completed their home programme with a resounding 3-0 victory over old rivals Saffron Walden.
With a nu,ber of absentees there was an opportunity for 16-year-old Josh Ford at centre-back and a first place on the bench for Sam Waite from the youth team.
Before the game Sam Applegate was presented with the GYTFC Supporters’ Player of the Year by a group of Bloaters supporters.
A scrappy start to the game the deadlock was broken in the 24th minute as Mitch Forbes won a corner, the ball was flighted in by Haydn Davis and Ady Ager was on hand to bundle the ball home to give the home side the lead.
Then Davis whipped the ball into Ager whose header was diverted into the net by Forbes but the referee determined there had been a foul and the goal was ruled out.
The home side should have extended their lead as Forbes capitalised on some hesitant defending and bundled his way through, only to see his effort bounce back off the post.
With the half-time teacups still being washed up, Sean Perfect chased a lost cause and stole the ball from a defender before ghosting past two men and pulling the ball back to Davis who fired home to double the home side’s lead early in the second half.
In the 63rd minute a corner by Perfect, after good work by Olly Savage, was only partially cleared and Davis was on hand to thump an unstoppable volley past goalkeeper Soutar for the third goal for the home side, to effectively end the game as a contest.
With the clock approaching 90 minutes Will George was put through on his own after beating the offside trap but as he rounded the keeper a couple of defenders got back to smother the ball away. There was still time for a couple of further efforts as first George went wide and then Ager headed over the bar but the home side were unable to extend their lead.
In the end it was a comfortable home victory for the Bloaters, after a promising first half for the Bloods, and a valuable three points.
The man-of-the-match award sponsored by Alastair Chapman went to Haydn Davis.
