GREAT Yarmouth Town's most important game in Ridgeons Division One so far this season takes place at the Wellesley tomorrow when leaders Newmarket Town make their first visit for four years (ko 3pm), seeking a double.

The Jockeys won 4-0 on their own patch at the beginning of December, and their only defeat in the last 10 games was on Boxing Day at home to Godmanchester as they push on for immediate restoration of Premier Division status, writes Gerry Brown.

Concerned about a lack of goals, the Bloaters will have a new face on show, an experienced Ridgeons League striker, as yet unnamed, who was top scorer when

his team won promotion a couple of

seasons ago.

The game is to be sponsored by HW Chartered Accountants, the third time such assistance has been rendered Great Yarmouth by Simon Clarke's new business based in Regent Street in the town.

With the club concerned about low attendances, accompanied children are to be admitted free of charge.

Goals from Charlie McAra (2), Darren Patterson and Jo Bell saw the reserves to a 4-0 win over Fakenham Town Reserves at the Wellesley last week.

With half the season yet to play, the Bloaters' reserve team are in fourth place in Anglian Combination Division Two, six points behind leaders Reepham Town from the same number of games.

The two sides meet next week at the Wellesley in the quarter-finals of the Junior KO Cup, but before that tomorrow's league game is at Norwich St Johns (2pm).

The U18s continued their winning ways with a 3-1 success over Lowestoft Town in the League Cup, putting them into the third round.

Next Wednesday sees the biggest game at the Wellesley since Norwich City brought their Premiership side in 2004.

This time it's the Norwich Legends team, led by Dale Gordon, who are providing the opposition to a Great Yarmouth Legends team organised by the Bloaters longest-serving manager and former Canary himself, Bill Punton.

The Yarmouth side includes such Wellesley heroes as Mark Vincent (745 games), Neil Hart (241 goals), Steve Playford, Nolan Keeley, Alan Barnard and Paul Grady.

A full preview can be read in the special supplement in this week's issue of the Mercury.
