Great Yarmouth Town are expecting a case of role reversal as they go seeking glory on the knockout front on Saturday.

A week ago the Bloaters were looking for an FA Cup upset when they hosted Southern League Chesham United – two steps above them on the non-league football pyramid – but ending up losing 2-0.

Broxbourne Borough are at The Wellesley on saturday for an FA Vase first round qualifying game and joint boss Adam Mason is keen to avoid another upset – but with the boot on the other foot. Step six Broxbourne play in the South Midlands League Division One – a step below Yarmouth.

“It’s probably a bit of role reversal for us,” said joint boss Adam Mason. “They are step six side and will probably play similar to us in the FA Cup, trying to keep in the game and snatch something.

“But it is another one where we don’t want a replay.”

Goals soon after half-time and then five minutes from time ended Yarmouth’s hopes against Chesham - but at the same time avoided what might have been a difficult replay, with a number of players unavailable for any trip to Buckinghamshire. Instead, Town played their scheduled Thurlow Nunn Premier Division fixture – and beat Walsham-le-Willows 3-1.

The cup game drew a crowd of 277 and Mason is hoping another big date will bring out the best in his team.

“It would have been nice for the supporters that came down for us to get a goal,” he said. “We have seen it here before, when we have big occasions we do get big crowds.

“It is good to get that backing – there is a lot of effort go in. What we have to do at this club is not just turn up and move magnets about. It is about is doing almost everything and if we commit ourselves to this we hope the players buy into what we are asking of them.”
