Great Yarmouth Town got their points tally moving again on Tuesday evening with a hard-fought goalless draw against a Thetford side who had won 9-0 at the weekend.

The Bloaters were without skipper Rob Andersen, Mitch Forbes, Sean Perfect, Vadim Costandachi and Olly Savage but there was a welcome return for Adie Ager after suspension along with Haydn Davis and Lee Roots.

With talented youngster Kieran Hagan showing some nice touches, the home side played well in the first half without creating too many clear-cut chances although Haydn Davis was unlucky when his cross-shot hit the bar.

The visitors then went close when Wood got through and Priddle’s follow-up shot went wide. The home side then went close as some good play between Sanders almost put Davis through but he was crowded out by some resolute defending.

Hagan was drawing fouls from the visitors’ defence and from a free-kick awarded outside the area Will Viner saved low down to his right from an inswinging Sanders’ free-kick.

The Bloaters began the second half on the front foot when a flowing move involving Roots, Howell and Holmes saw the striker move the ball onto Sanders whose shot was well saved.

Lewis then made a powerful run through midfield to set up a chance for Davis that was deflected wide. At the other end Melanson found space to fire in a shot that cleared the bar as the home defence failed to clear a long ball.

With five minutes to go and the home side running out of ideas it was the visitors who began to sense there might be something on offer as Whatmough saved from Melanson and then Priddle was put through on goal but his lob over Whatmough narrowly missed the far post.

The visitors then had one final chance as Whatmough saved Priddle’s shot as the visitors finished strongly.

The youngsters in the side had played well, with Hagan and Ray Urry catching the eye, and this was a much-improved performance.
