TOMORROW'S visit from Scottish pro club Clyde FC marks the start of Great Yarmouth Town's 100th playing season.

Although the Yarmouth club was formed 111 years ago, 11 playing seasons were lost to the two world wars, so this season is the centenary in terms of competitive action.

Clyde were formed in 1877, 10 years before the Boaters, and before the advent of the Scottish Premier League in 1975, Clyde regularly played the mighty Celtic and Rangers in the top tier - the then Division One - north of the border.

Clyde have won the Scottish FA Cup on three occasions including twice in the 1950s, perhaps the club's most successful era - as might be said about Yarmouth.

At the other end of the scale, Clyde have also spent several seasons in the second division and have been close to winding-up as recently as 2005.

A famous victory over Celtic in the Scottish Cup the following year brought back memories of the glory years but last season the club were forced to fight the Division One/Two play-offs to retain their status.

All Clyde's players are of Scottish descent and, from their published player profiles, it appears only one - Gary McSwegan - has played in English football, at Notts County. A striker, he also boasts a goal for his country from two international appearances.

Tomorrow's game kicks off at 3pm, but before that there is to be an U9 tournament featuring Yarmouth's new team of youngsters along with Norwich City Academy, Kirkley & Pakefield and Oulton Mariners.

This all starts at 2pm and is included in the admission price of £5 adults, £2 senior citizens and juniors 10 to 16, under-10s free. Gates open at noon.

A special triple-issue of Yarmouth's match programme, the Bloaters Bulletin, has also been prepared.

It features all three home friendlies of this pre-season and has been sponsored by The Great Yarmouth Mercury, Great Yarmouth Ceilings and G & G Clothing (King's Lynn).

Saturday evening sees the first event at the club's new Legends Sports Bar, as the refurbished clubhouse is now called.

Andy Goram, the former Scottish international goalkeeper with over 40 appearances for his country and now a coach at Clyde, will be holding audience from 9pm.

Tickets for this are obtainable by telephoning 07702253229 and include a cold buffet. Admission may also be obtained on the door but space is limited.

Sunday sees the Bloaters hold their presentation event when the club's 2007-08 awards ceremonies takes place at the Wellesley ground from noon. A barbecue will be available and all supporters are welcome.

The Bloaters have announced their admission prices for season 2008-09.
