WITH both teams in form, Monday's derby at Emerald Park between Gorleston and Great Yarmouth Town (ko 3pm) promises to be a cracking game as the Greens seek revenge for their Boxing Day defeat at the Wellesley by the Bloaters.

Before that, in Ridgeons Division One, tomorrow Yarmouth are at home to Cornard United - aiming to maintain their promotion push - and the fourth-placed Greens travel to Ipswich Wanderers still with a mathematical chance of going up.

Great Yarmouth Town 2, Godmanchester Rovers 1

THE Bloaters kept their Premier Division ambitions on track with a hard-fought victory against a battling Godmanchester Rovers.

Yarmouth kept mostly the same starting 11 as the 8-0 winners against Swaffham with Adam Sewell coming in as a direct replacement for Jonny King being the only change.

This meant that last week's young debutant Ross Catchpole kept his position, with regular Dominic Smith coming back to the fold but having to settle for a place on the bench. Also on the bench was last week's super subs Scott Woodcock and Fernando Vide and young goalkeeper Craig Lambert.

The first half was a case of Yarmouth enjoying the vast majority of possession but not creating the clear-cut chances their play deserved.

Martyn Magee screwed a shot wide in the 22nd minute and Gavin Norman fired a shot in which was well saved by Goddy goalkeeper Ryan Paynter, who then saved well again from a Jake Reed effort, tipping over a near-post flick.

Yarmouth's missed chances were punished on 38 minutes when a long-range free-kick caught everyone unawares. The ball struck the cbar and only one player on the pitch, a Rovers striker, had the foresight to follow up.

Paynter continued keeping the Bloaters at bay with another good save from another Reed effort. Craig Roberts won his header from the resulting corner but it fell straight into Paynter's hands.

Second half Adam Sewell created an opportunity that Paynter held onto.

Manager Paul Tong made a treble substitution on the hour mark. Off came Magee, Fell and Norman and on came Woodcock, Vide and Smith.

The players were in the thick of the action with Woodcock having the next opportunity from a Roach flick. After Oliver Savage's great effort, which Paynter tipped over, Woodcock's corner fell to Dominic Smith but with the keeper beaten a defender clear off the line.

With 10 minutes to go the Huntingdon side were still holding on, repelling everything Yarmouth could throw at them. Fernando Vide was a real threat down the left wing and made Yarmouth look much more dangerous.

On 81 minutes the crowd were buoyed as, finally, one of Yarmouth's chances was taken. Craig Roberts came up with the goods once more, bundling in from close range.

Woodcock and Savage both went close with free-kicks and in the 87th minute the winner came.

One of Adam Sewell's trademark throw-ins was launched into the box and Roberts again got the telling touch.

There were still six minutes of time added on, but thanks to Hilton's late save the Bloaters held on to further consolidate their position in the top three.
