Acle Ladies' indoor bowls team have reached the national quarter-finals of the over-60s double rinks Mason Trophy.
They played Tilbury at Chesterton, Cambridge for a place in the last eight. Joy Pearson, Peggy West, Molly Auld and Geraldine Reeve were slow to settle and at six ends were 11-5 down, but a four on the ninth end put them 12-11 up.
This was followed by a five on the 11th and by 16 ends were 23-14 up, they then dropped a five on the 17th to make a nervous finish, but it went Acle's way winning 28-20.
Margaret Arnold, Jill Saunders, Pat Dickinson and Marion Himpleman were also slow to settle and were 9-1 down after six ends, scored a four on the seventh and by 10 ends were 12-6 down. By 15 ends it was 17-8 but then Acle came back, and playing the final end it was 17-16. This they lost four shots, but the game was all over with an Acle victory.
This was a great comeback and a testimony to the resolve of the Acle girls. After six ends it was 20-6 and at 10 ends 24-18, and with three ends left to play Acle were in front 38-36.
