THE Ocean Room, Gorleston, saw the final home boxing show of the season with Kingfisher ABC members pleasing an appreciative crowd.

Henry Potter met T Stokes and from the start Stokes' swinging style had Potter pushed back, but he soon regained his composure and scored valuable points.

The second round had Potter working well, moving into range to deliver some good straight left-right combinations.

With the bout in the balance going into the last round both boxers put in a tremendous last effort and it wasn't until the last 30 seconds that Stokes' weight and height advantage started to tell. Stokes scored the decisive last few points to take the last round and the bout.

Stevie Middleton met D Parker in a rematch. Parker had previously taken Middleton's Eastern Counties title.

Moving well, Middleton picked Parker off for almost no reply. With a change of tactics in the second round Parker ducked low as Middleton stepped in to deliver his shots then

standing straight up to hold on and push Middleton back, despite this Middleton picked his shots well.

In the third round Parker tried to frustrate Middleton by holding and working inside, but Middleton had a unanimous points win.

Richard Burton met F Davis of Chalverdon ABC in an evenly-matched bout. Despite a good display from Burton, Davies took the judges' decision.

Dean Vann met J Gotts of Norwich Lads ABC in a very one-sided bout. From the first bell Vann imposed himself, taking the centre of the ring. He unleashed a series of combinations switching from body to head. Gotts looked outclassed. The second round saw Vann inflict a devastating six-punch combination that had Gotts corner throwing in the towel after just

10 seconds.

Paul Hudson met E Okoubi of Times ABC. Giving away height and reach to Okoubi it was obvious Hudson would have to work hard to stop himself from being picked off by his rangy opponent and this he did by moving in and out of range to great effect.

It wasn't until the latter stages of the round that Okoubi had any success but by then it was too late to influence the judges unanimous decision in favour of Hudson.

Sam Halms met V Wheeler in the Eastern Counties final. In the only female bout of the evening Halms found Wheeler's southpaw stance awkward to deal with but she soon found her range and moved well. The second round started well for Halms with several well-executed attacks to take control and this continued into the third. Wheeler was forced to hold on. However, Halms continued to pressure and with the final bell got a well deserved unanimous decision from the judges.

Cain Brunning met M Poston of Harwich ABC. The first saw Brunning abandon his usual counter-boxing style to take the fight to Poston and scored well from his southpaw stance with several straight rights. Poston started the second round in a more positive way but Bunning countered well with a right hook and a straight left to the head against the more experienced Harwick boxer.

The third round was a very cagey affair. With the bout in the balance going into the last round, Poston took the bout to Brunning, scoring well with left-right combinations. This final effort tipped the balance in favour of Poston, giving him a win by majority decision.

Paulius Macivleuilius met K Dyer of Times ABC in the final Kingfisher bout of the night.

Macivleuilius, with an aggressive style, was against a shorter, stockier opponent who likes to come forward. Initially, Macivleuilius had greater success by moving round the ring well and cutting his opponent off. Macivleuilius scored with a number of well-executed combinations, pushing Dyer back. Towards the end of the round Macivleuilius trapped his opponent in the corner and landed punch after punch on Dyer for no reply.

Within a few seconds of the second round the bout took a dramatic change as Macivleuilius stepped in with a straight left-right. Dyer moved to his left and landed a right hand that knocked Macivleuilius to the canvas.

Although up at seven, Macivleuilius was forced to defend as Dyer pressed home his advantage and soon caught Macivleuilius with a right hook that forced the referee to give Macivleuilius a standing count.

Macivleuilius launched his own attack, but still suffering the effects from earlier in the round lacked any real power and Dyer bided his time and forced Macivleuilius to take a third and final count from the referee, who stopped the bout in favour of Dyer.

The season has gone well for the club which still has boxers on championship duty.

Macivleuilius, their youth boxer, suffered a narrow defeat in the National Novice event but but is still active in the National Youth Championship. Cain Brunning dropped a decision to a strong well-schooled opponent, Heffron from Manchester in the NACYP championship. Cain is also still active in the National Youth Championship. Both boxers are at the top of their game and are facing the top boxers in the country on a regular basis.

The club have also had another successful trip to Denmark for a Multi Nations tournament with Sam Halms taking silver, Ben Savva the gold and Dean Vann a bronze.

The next Ocean Room show will be in November, the first of the 2009/10 season.
