BRADWELL Bowling Club's annual meeting held a minute's silence for Jean Harris, a long-term member and former ladies' captain, and Phyllis Ward, a founder member, former assistant secretary, assistant treasurer and ladies' captain.

Mr E J Carter, chairman of the Great Yarmouth and Gorleston branch of the RNLI, was presented with a cheque from the club's charity day.

The secretary's report mentioned press coverage of the club had attracted favourable comments.

Regular reports in the Great Yarmouth Mercury and in Bradwell View publicised the club, its league results, and its special events and celebrated the successes of all members. The secretary also reported on social activities, referring to the club's presentation evening and thanking Mr and Mrs Williams for organising the winter Wednesdays social afternoons.

The treasurer reported there was no need to raise subscriptions or rink fees. Friendly matches had proved a good source of income.

Referring to the projected new building, the chairman drew attention to the fund-raising efforts of Mr K Hall, fundraising officer Mrs D Hopwood and Mrs D Smith for the raffles and Mr and Mrs Williams for the lottery competitions. The many members who brought raffle prizes or produce to be sold were also thanked.

The ladies' captain reported on Malta Cup matches and praised the very good performance of the ladies' team in the top club competition.

The club captain reported on league and competition results and friendly matches, singling out success in the super sixes competition. He thanked the vice-captain, Mr Williams for his help. In 2010 one extra team would be entered in the Hansell's Norfolk County EBA League and in the Norfolk County Federation League.

The work of Andy Cameron and Tom Hall was appreciated. Currently the club has 92 full members and 16 social members.

Plans of the new annexe were available for inspection. The chairman thanked Bradwell Parish Council for its continued support and encouragement. The outside building work would be done first and internal alterations to the existing pavilion would follow.

Greenkeeping work had been difficult because of the very dry weather, and the chairman thanked Mr T Payne and Mr M Marshall for their work.

The club's qualified coaches had taught 24 beginners and improvers. The chairman thanked Mrs Pilgrim, Mr Marshall, Mrs Macdonald and Mrs Caton for their coaching work.

All nominations for officers and committee members were approved: Chairman, Eddie Macdonald; secretary, Pauline Taylor; treasurer, Dahlia Macdonald; club captain, Ken Saward; vice-captain, Tom Williams; ladies' captain, Jill Boggis; committee members Carol Beattie, Thelma Bradnum, Ron Beardall, Allan Collins, June Dhonau, Ken Hall, Joy Williams. There was one vacancy for a committee member.
