A bright and sunny day in January is a rare occurrence, but that's what the runners from Great Yarmouth schools experienced at Bure Park last week. With races for children in Years 5 and 6 at primary and junior schools up to Years 10 and 11 at high schools this event gave all the children of the borough a chance to show their running ability.
A bright and sunny day in January is a rare occurrence, but that's what the runners from Great Yarmouth schools experienced at Bure Park last week.
With races for children in Years 5 and 6 at primary and junior schools up to Years 10 and 11 at high schools this event gave all the children of the borough a chance to show their running ability. Organised by Great Yarmouth Borough Councils Sports Development Service and Great Yarmouth and District Athletic Club with assistance from pupils from Lynn Grove High School, the event went all according to plan.
In the race for Year 5, boys and girls winners was Patrick Manning (Stradbroke) and Amy Dowsett (Ormesby) in the Year 6 event winning boy was Dayle Searby (Moorlands), winning girl was Victoria Simmonds (Woodlands).
Year 7 boy winner was Robbie Sweeney (GYHS) and winning girl Nicki Shreeve (Lynn Grove).
The Years 8 and 9 races were won by Olly Burt and Catherine Lee, both from Cliff Park. Races for Years 10 and 11 combined were won by Ben Church (Flegg) and Josie French (GYHS).
Children who finished in the first eight places at Year 7 and above will be asked to represent the borough at the County Schools Championships in Norwich on January 28.
