On Sunday Great Yarmouth and District Athletic Club put on its annual medal meeting now in its 34th year. The highlight of the day was the under-13 javelin thrower Oliver Bradfield from the City of Norwich who threw the javelin a massive 54.

Local athletes had a good day especially in the older age groups. Josh Aldred won the 100m in 11.4sec with club mate Jason Borg second in 12.0sec. In the 200m Josh was pushed to the line but held on to win in 22.9 with Jason Borg fourth in 24.7.

In the under-17 boys age group Kai Hewitt won gold in the 100m and 200m in times of 11.9 and 24.2 but found the going tough in the 400m and finished third in 55.8.

In the high jump Wesley Attew won silver, clearing 1.75m, with James Lee winning bronze in the discus throwing 13.93m.

In the under-15 boys James House won gold in the long jump with 4.44m and went on to win two silver medals in the high jump (1.45m) and javelin(26.45m).

Andrew Creak also won bronze in the high jump, clearing 1.40m, and Martin Butler had a good 100m race to take the silver medal in 13.0s.

The under-13 boys disappointingly had no medal winners. Luke Duval-Woods finished fourth in the final of the 100m in a time of 14.4, brother Marc finished seventh in the long jump with 3.69m. Keelan Pywell put in a spirited race in the 800m but left it too late and finished fifth in 2min 45.7sec with club mate Jay Turner taking the sixth place in 2:56.6.

Senior Lady Emma Barwick continued her good results in the discus taking the gold with a throw of 29.09m, Caroline Drewitt second with 21.0m and Nadine Simmonds 17.36m third completed the clean sweep for Great Yarmouth.

Nadine went one place better in the javelin to win the silver medal with a throw of 23.48m. Holly Andrews running in the 800m found herself gamely trying to catch the leader over last 100m but had to settle for second with a new pb of 2:23.5.

The under-15 girls had a brilliant day winning a pile of medals. Charlotte Eastwood turned in a great run in the 200m (28.5) to take the gold to add to gold in the javelin (18.34m) and silver in the 800m (2:34.2).

Ellie Baxell ran her best 200m to win the bronze in a time of 29.5 and also jumped 1.15m to win the silver in the high jump. Sophie McKinna set a pb in the 100m (13.7) to take the silver in one of the closest finishes of the day this to add to her gold in the shot (10.10m).

Frankie Turner put in a stylish performance in the 75m hurdles to win in a new pb of 14.1 earlier in the 800m she won bronze in a time of 2:47.8. Jessie Nicolson just missed out on the gold in the long jump on the count back taking the silver with 4.16m, Eden Simmons won silver in the javelin (10.22m).

In the under-13 girls section Louisa Marshall was Yarmouth's only medallist and with a pb throw of 18.02m she won silver in the discus. Catherine Lee and Kelly Pywell battled hard in the 800m with Catherine finishing fifth in 2m 46.0s and Kelly seventh in 2m 50.9s.

In the under-11 boys Patrick Manning put in a very spirited run in the 600m to take third place in 2:10.7, while Niall Simmons started well but faded to finish ninth in 2:29.4.

In the under-11 girls Abbie McKinna had a busy day with her best result in the 80m finishing fifth in 14.2.

The club thanked MP Tony Wright, Lord Mayor Terry Easter, Paul Evans the Norfolk Athletics Development Officer and John Pamplin Great Yarmouth SDO for making the presentations during the day.
