THE 3 Lions Kickboxing Gym is boosting four British titles.

Seven junior members took part in the open British Junior Full Contact Championships in Birmingham, which were attended by over 500 of the best juniors in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Schoolgirl sensation, world junior champion Kelsea Carroll (13), was in blistering form, beating Leeza Calthorne of Rotherham by first round TKO in the final of the U40 kilo (12 to 14) schoolgirl category, making her the 2011 British Full Contact Champion.

In the finals of the U25 kilo (nine to 11s) category, Remy Sayer (10) beat highly-rated Scottish champion Jamie Murray on points to take the British Full Contact title.

Conor Judge (16) won the under 50 kilos (15 to 17) category by beating Newcastle’s Paul Read in the final.

The 3 Lions team had three entries in the U30 kilos (nine to 11s) category, which had 10 fighters in it.

English champion Carlos Regini Moran (11) won three full contact bouts — a quarter-final, semi-final and the final, to clinch the coveted British title.

Luca McComb (9) beat Asif Khan from Birmingham in the quarter-finals, and Luke Young from Coventry in the semi-final, before coming up against team-mate Moran in the final, and had to settle for the silver medal.

A great day for the younger, lighter fighter. Nicky McHugh (10) produced the three best fights of his career, beating Najib Khan of Birmingham in a pre quarter-final on points, then beating a Northampton lad by first round TKO with some powerful body kicks in the quarter-finals.

Nicky ended up against team-mate Moran in the semi-finals and in a great fight that most people couldn’t split, the judges awarded it to Moran by one point, with Nicky having to settle for the bronze.

So the 3 Lions mini warriors made it a clean sweep — gold, silver and bronze in this category, against the cream of British junior kick-boxers

Travis Manning (12) fought Leicester Assassins Luke Kelly (14) in the semi-finals of the under 35 kilos (12 to 14-year-olds) category and came through an absolute war, where Manning’s better boxing saw him take the points decision.

However, Manning sustained an eye injury and was ruled out of the final, meaning he had to settle for the silver medal

Coach Dave Munro said: “Every other weekend our kids fight all over the country, always proving that they are one of the best junior teams in the country.

“They are amazing. We were the only club there who won four British titles. Myself, Frank, John and Glen (club coaches) were so proud of them.

“And to top it all, Kelsea, Nicky, Luca and Travis were all picked for the England squad to go to the World Championships in Germany in August.”

The 3 Lions team train at the K9 Gym on Estcourt Road from Mondays to Saturdays.
