Broadland-GY 3 Swaffham 27

Broadland’s Norfolk Junior Cup campaign ended on Saturday, when they were beaten comfortably in the semi-final by a well-drilled Swaffham.

Swaffham put Broadland on the back foot early in the game as pressure yielded a converted try.

Broadland couldn’t find an attacking platform and were struggling to link phases of play.

Swaffham added a penalty near the mid-point of the half. Broadland did begin to apply some pressure and although the boot of Sean Howley was pinning Swaffham back deep, Broadland could not capitalise on being inside the visitors’ 22-metre line. Swaffham led 10-0 at the half.

Broadland opened the second half well, moving the ball steadily inside the Swaffham 22-metre line with some good work from Simon Ruddick, bringing the forwards back into play. But a turnover saw the visiting fullback cover almost the whole field as he scored a converted try.

Broadland made some good ground and were rewarded with a penalty from Jake Clarke to get them on the scoreboard, but a secondbreak away try, put the game beyond reach. Broadland went looking for a consolation score, but Swaffham again managed to exploit the gaps and concluded the game with an unconverted try.

It was an afternoon when Broadland GY’s well-worked plans at training could not be transferred to the pitch.
