Woodbridge 30 Broadland-GY 12

Broadland-GY travelled to Woodbridge, hoping to improve on recent performances, but despite a solid display from the visitors Woodbridge were comfortable winners.

Woodbridge kicked an early penalty, but Broadland were moving the ball well, and found themselves on the front foot inside the Woodbridge 22 metre line, but a knock-on stifled the attack.

Broadland regained possession but a loose ball was kicked through a ruck and Woodbridge pounced and broke to score a converted try. Broadland marched steadily back up field with some good work from Murray and Weston, followed by a great run down the blindside by hooker Ant Payne, complemented by a storming run from Mason Jerome down within two metres of the line. But a missed pass opened the door for Woodbridge as they scored on the counter (unconverted). Woodbridge led 15-0 at half time.

A missed tackle in the midfield allowed the home side to extend the score early in the second half. Broadland heads did not go down as they pushed at the Woodbridge line, Richard Ruddick, Sam French and Asa Morrison all made ground, before scrum half Buckley put the ball wide. Fly half Simon Ruddick drew his man to release captain Ledgerwood. Ledgerwood put in a grubber kick to dive over to score (unconverted). Woodbridge moved to a more expansive game as they took the ball from left to right and back, before finding some space to score in the corner.

Broadland would not sit back. Sean Howley made space in midfield, and Broadland surged with the break with Dwyer and Bilyard, moving closer to the line. Dixon and Towfighi both had runs at the lines, but Ben Collings came off the wing and managed to drive Woodbridge forwards over the line, before a burst of Herculean strength saw Collings get the ball down (converted J Clarke).

Broadland were a bit too expansive on the final play and a turn-over sparked a chain of events which saw Woodbridge score in the corner (unconverted).

A try for the home team came when T Barber picked up at the back of a ruck and dived over.

Man of the match A Lightfoot crashed through the line to score. Direct running from L Dobson, on his debut, saw him score after crashing through several would-be tacklers.
