Broadland-GY prepare for action

Broadland-Great Yarmouth 23, Norwich II 10

RUGBY: Broadland-Great Yarmouth began the season with a solid home victory over Norwich II in a friendly.

Broadland provided some excellent early play with wing Tom Weston breaking from deep to provide some pressure This was complemented by some excellent running from Royce Chiddle and Sam Noon, with a penalty awarded. Tom Weston kicked an early lead.

Broadland continued with the pressure, and solid work from the pack moved the ball in close. Hooker Rye Bilyard got the ball within a yard of the try line, but it was captain Stacey Ledgerwood who took a short pass one-handed to dive over to score.

Broadland soaked up some good attacking play, but got a second penalty through the boot of Weston.

Norwich kept themselves in contention with an unconverted try towards the end of the half.

Broadland responded well and a quickly-taken penalty provided the opportunity for Sam Noon to score (converted Weston).

Broadland started the second half on a back foot and a Norwich try, made the game a close affair.

Broadland were struggling to gain clean ball in the line-out and Norwich were making the best of the additional possession.

Broadland were tested at the goal-line but solid tackling from Chris Hewitt and Richard Ruddick prevented a score.

Broadland were still moving the ball well and No 8 Towfighi broke to score following some excellent work from Steve Weston and Ryan Gallie.

The final few minutes involved some late pressure from Norwich but Broadland held firm in defence.

Tomorrow, Broadland II play host to Watton II in a friendly. The first XV start the league campaign on September 25 when they travel to play Dereham, both matches kicking off at 3pm.
