Mistley 3 Broadland-Gt Yarmouth 34

Broadland made the away trip to Essex and came away with a comfortable win to strengthen their hold on second place in Eastern Counties Two.

Early play saw Broadland launch into attack, and two marginal forward passes prevented early scores.

Broadland maintained the tempo as centre Mossie Abeysekera burst through midfield and cut across the pitch. He was dragged down just short of the tryline, but put in the perfect offload to Ben Collings who went over for the score, converted by Stuart Murray.

Broadland maintained the pressure and scrum-half Simon Ruddick was moving the ball upfield at will.Murray came close to a score, but it was finally Adam Towfighi who skipped a tackle to score under the posts, Murray converting.

Broadland’s defence was in great form with some great tackles from Asa Morrison and Jimmy Dwyer.

Sean Howley made a fantastic break and Abeysekera was quickly in support, gathering the ball and then jinking his way across the Mistley try line. Murray added a penalty just before the end of the half to leave the visitors with a comfortable 22-0 lead.

Broadland came out strongly. Simon Coleman was taking some good ball in the lines and the front row of Dwyer, Finney and Jerome were ensuring a steady supply of decent ball at the back of the scrum. Stacey Ledgerwood had a good break down the wing and with Buckley and Hewitt securing position, Ruddick sent the ball back inside to Howley, Howley moved into space and then put in a bullet of a pass to Tom Weston on the wing. Weston took the ball, stepped in, then out to score in the corner.

Broadland made a couple of changes, with Nick Rose and Adam Vincent coming on and captain Phil Buckley stepping up into the front row for the first time at hooker.

Broadland’s final try was a spectacular individual effort from No8 Towfighi, who picked up from the scrum at midfield and took off across the field; beginning to run out of space he cut back in between the Mistley centres before straightening up, then sidestepped the full-back to score under the posts, with Murray adding the extras.

Mistley added a late penalty to conclude the game.

In other matches, Broadland-Great Yarmouth Regulators were 13-10 winners over Lowestoft & Yarmouth III.

The Regulators managed to hold off a spirited charge by the visitors in the closing stages of the game to win a close and extremely hard fought game.

On a bitterly cold day, with the wind blowing across Breydon Water Broadland-GY U15s played host to a very useful and well drilled Southwold U15s team, who left with a 50--10 victory.

Despite the score line there were some real positives to take out of the game, with some good teamwork and ambition in attack, which was only let down by some mediocre tackling at times.
