Norwich Union 12 Broadland-Gt Yarmouth 69

Broadland-Great Yarmouth travelled to Norwich Union, looking for a win to consolidate their position at the top of the league.

The Great Yarmouth side got off to a perfect start, as scrum-half Simon Ruddick found a gap and took an early lead through a well-taken try. Broadland’s scoring continued as fly-half Stuart Murray squeezed through a gap to score under the posts.

Broadland were piling on the pressure and great work from Asa Morrison and Tristian Barber set a ruck four metres out and Jimmy Dwyer trotted over the line uncontested for a try.

From the kick-off Richard Ruddick made some great ground, off-loading to Adam Towfighi in the midfield and in the footrace to the line Towfighi managed to go the distance to score. Captain Phil Buckley added another with a powerful run to score, with Murray adding his fourth conversion, Broadland held a commanding 33-0 lead but in the last play of the half Norwich Union picked off a loose ball to score.

Broadland were straight on the scoreboard in the second half as Murray added a penalty to his tally. Broadland continued with the pressure and after good runs from Richard Bristo and Rian Gallie, it was Martyn Greenwood who drove over to score.

Broadlands’s attacks were fast and furious and a good break from Ben Collings put Broadland in great field position. From a scrum Towfighi picked up from the base to score his second.

Norwich Union were attempting to clear their lines and a deep kick was collected by full back Jonno Stanhope-Smith. He sent an up-and -under down the side-line, before collecting his own kick. He was tackled at the goaline but managed to off-load to Ed Dixon who dived over to score. Norwich Union pushed Broadland and a momentary lapse of attention saw a quick break yield a score for the home side.

Broadland composed themselves, and steadily worked towards the goaline and a quick step saw Stuart Murray break to score his second.

Broadland again attacked from the kick-off with some great running from Chris Hewitt and George Wilson. Centre Shaun Howley found some space and got the ball inside Norwich Union’s 22-metre line, before releasing Jay Webster who broke to score. Murray added an eighth conversion taking his personal tally to 29 points in the game. The bonus point away win, strengthened Broadland-Great Yarmouth’s league position.
