Despite finishing with superior numbers Broadland could not hold onto a late lead and secure a victory when beaten 14-7 by Norwich Medics.

The game was physical throughout. As the first half wore on Broadland broke out of defence to finish the half on top. Strong hard running from Nathan Bensley and Kieran Wilkes put them on the front foot and Shaun Howley was working the ball out wide well to create space. After securing a penalty Howley hit the post but Collings secured the rebound and after a maul, Ant Payne latched on to score a deserved try.

The hosts would not lie down though and the game continued end-to-end.

Sadly Broadland saw several chances go begging and failed to kill off the game. Medics scored a crucial try to level the scores and then went down to 14 men due to injury. However, they finished much stronger and worked down the blindside to score and take a late lead.

The Tigers travelled to Lakenham and were beaten 54-5.

The game started with Great Yarmouth keeping the ball close to the ruck with punishing runs from Stu Brown, Dave Long and Liam Lovick putting them in good positions. In what resembled so much of the game, Lakenham turned over the ball and scored. That pattern continued with runs from Stephen Weston and Neil Blizzard, set up by dominant mauls and the distribution of Pat Finney. But despite ferocious tackling from Nathan Cocking and Jay Prescott, Lakenham scored further tries.

In the second half Paul Able and Nathan Bensley made huge gains, creating pressure which forced many penalties. Captain Jimmy Dwyer capitalised to score Great Yarmouth’s only try, converted by Jay Pollard.

Despite desperate tackling from Andy Lovick and Dan Jones, Lakenham scored further tries leading to a scoreline which did not reflect the match.

Team: Finney, L Lovick, Brown, N Blizzard, Long, Weston, Abel, Dwyer, Pollard, Allard, Abel, Prescott, Jones, A Lovick, N Cocking. Sub: Bensley.
