Hadleigh 13, Broadland 26

BROADLAND found attacking form that has been eluding them for a number of weeks.

Excellent early play in the backs saw them stretch Hadleigh, but against the run of play Hadleigh countered for an unconverted try five minutes into the game.

Quick Broasdland ball through the hands of Ashley Lightfoot and Tommy Simmonds gave wing Leighton Buckley space, and after wrong-footing his opposite number he cut inside the full back to score (converted Alfshinpour).

At the following kick-off, Hadleigh kicked long and deep and the ball took two extremely unpredictable bounces before stopping at the Broadland goal line where the Hadleigh wing touched down (unconverted).

Hadleigh increased their lead with an easy penalty.

Broadland were again putting in some excellent attacking plays. Wing Jake Sewell made good ground up the sideline, and this culminated in some superb support play from Andy Hewitt and Adam Towfighi and finally prop Matt Beckett going over, however as the referee could not get a clear view play was brought back. Shortly after Buckley went over for his second as he jinked his way over to score (unconverted) with Broadland finishing the half trailing by a point.

Broadland's offensive play was causing Hadleigh problems. Broadland unsuccessfully appealed for a penalty try then Asa Morrison picked up and crashed over, but the referee was not convinced of a clean grounding. Broadland held their opponents close to their own line and finally flanker Ed Dixon managed to dive on a loose ball, and score (converted Alfshinpour) for Broadland to take the lead.

Broadland sealed the win as fly half Simon Ruddick sent full back Brad Sutherland clear though the middle. Sutherland quickly dispatched the full back to score under the posts (converted Alfshinpour).

Broadland: B Sutherland, J Sewell, T Simmonds, A Lightfoot, L Buckley, S Ruddick, F Alfshinpour, M Beckett, G Jarvis, A Riches, A Towfighi, T Fenn (capt), A Hewitt, E Dixon, A Morrison.

Scorers: Buckley (2), Dixon, Sutherland. Conversions: Alfshinpour (three out of four).

Tomorrow Broadland play host to Lakenham Hewitt in the league (kick-off 2.30pm) at Cobholm Playing Fields.

Broadland II 27, Fakenham II 7

BROADLAND'S Tigers hosted Fakenham in a Norfolk Merit Table clash.

From the off Broadland forced Fakenham into errors, and after some swift hands among the Broadland backs Kyle Rogers finished off Broadland's first try (unconverted).

Fakenham did have some ball but each attack was met with fierce tackles from the Broadland three quarters, M Pywell, Rogers and Moss. Broadland's back row of Able, Crane, and Prescott were as unbeatable as the three quarters.

Broadland scored two more tries through J Prescott and Rogers with his second (unconverted). Half-time 15-0.

In the second half Fakenham went on the offensive and caught Broadland napping to score under the posts (converted).

Fakenham continued to push and soon had three more points on the board through a penalty kick.

With the score at 15-10 and Broadland on the back foot, the old heads in the Broadland pack took charge.

With Kev Collings and Pug Pywell leading the way the Broadland pack took control of the game once again, and made good ground winning a line-out 15 metres from the Fakenham line.

The ball was won cleanly and scrum half Moorehouse spun the ball to Mickey Pywell who jinked through to score (unconverted).

Broadland finished the game with the try of the day. From a Broadland 22 drop-out Durrant picked up a scrappy ball and made good ground before shipping to winger Ben Collings.

The ball then passed through numerous pairs of hands before Paul Able finished off a move that took Broadland from their own 22 to score under the posts. K Pywell stepped up to convert the try to cap off a good Broadland win.
