Despite a one-sided 40-12 scoreline to Diss II, Great Yarmouth-Broadland were very competitive and the game closer than it seemed.

Diss started on the front foot and despite strong defence they ran in two quick tries.

Broadland started to get possession and strong running from Kieran Wilkes and Dan Pennell gave them a good platform. Shaun Howley was kicking smartly and pinning Diss back in their own half. Defensively Broadland were well organised but the hosts had excellent retention and were offloading well out of the tackle. This led to them scoring a well-worked third try.

The rest of the half belonged to the visitors, but for all their possession and territory they could not break through the stubborn Diss defence.

The second half started in the best possible fashion for the visitors with James Murphy running nearly the entire length of the field to pop the ball to Chris Burling who went over.

Diss scored before adding another well-worked try. Broadland responded brilliantly. They worked the ball through the hands before Tristan Barber picked up an offload and got them five metres out. Simon Ruddick fed Shaun Howley who danced through a couple of tackles before passing to Jamie Murray who crashed over for an excellent team try. Diss scored the final try with a slick move.

The Tigers (2nds) travelled to Lakenham and lost 54-5.

After tries by the hosts in the first half, the second half started brightly for Great Yarmouth as Paul Able and Nathan Bensley made huge gains creating pressure which forced penalty after penalty in the opposition 22. Captain Jimmy Dwyer scored Yarmouth’s only try, converted by Jay Pollard. Broadland continued pushing forward, with help in the rucks and some good runs from Anthony Able and Joel Allard. Despite further desperate tackling from Andy Lovick and Dan Jones, Lakenham scored further tries.
