CAISTER got their promotion hopes back on track on Saturday.

Caister started kicking into a strong headwind, but still managed to get control of the game by keeping the ball low and playing a patient passing game.

The back four of Lines, Corke, Rowley and Blake were impressive throughout the half, giving the Caister midfield of Barry Crane, Danny Crane, Bennett and Johnston the support they needed to keep Poringland at bay.

Such was the work rate from Caister that Beales in goal was a virtual spectator for most of the first half and was required to just sweep up any long ball that was knocked over the top. And with Holdsworth and Fitzgerald running the visiting defence ragged it seemed only a matter of time before Caister would score.

With less than five minutes to half-time Caister took the lead. Blake passed the ball down the left to Danny Crane, who ran 60 yards down the wing and shot. The keeper parried the ball out but it fell to Holdsworth, who made no mistake from a yard out.

Caister made it two just before half-time, and again it was Holdsworth who scored, this time with a shot from just inside the area.

Poringland started the second half a lot brighter, and started to cause the Caister defence problems.

Ten minutes into the half Beales was forced to pull off a good save, pushing the ball around the post when a goal looked a certainty.

Shortly after Caister conceded a free-kick on the edge of the area, and the Poringland player shot, and even though Beales got a hand to the ball, it still went into the net.

Caister soon got their two goal advantage back when a good cross from the right was met by Corke, who scored with an overhead kick to bring his goal tally to four for the season.

With time ticking away Caister got the fourth. A long kick from Beales was met with a first time turn and shot from Danny Crane, leaving the visiting keeper with no chance.

This was a much improved performance on the previous week and the result was a fair reflection of the game.

Next, Caister travel to Wortwell, meet at 1pm at Allendale Road.
