CAISTER FC stepped in to replace Yarmouth Town at the Sailor Brown Memorial Trophy tomorrow (Saturday).

The Lifeboatmen will join Gorleston, Lowestoft Town, Kirkley and Blofield United to take part in the tournament at Emerald Park.

Yarmouth withdrew from the tournament in honour of the football legend earlier this month and will now be heading to Kent for a pre-season friendly with Ramsgate Town.

In an illustrious career Yarmouth-born Mr Brown played for Charlton, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa. Returning to his home town in 1949 he enjoyed a successful spell as Gorleston player-manager in the 1950s.

Mr Brown died, aged 93, last December and a memorial service was held in Gorleston earlier this year. The Greens have since renamed one of the stands at Emerald Park after him.

Club committee member Ann Santon said: “We would like to thank Caister FC for stepping in at the last moment, bringing a team along to take the place

of Yarmouth.

Entrance to the Sailor Brown Memorial Trophy day costs 2 for adults and 1 for OAPS and youngsters aged 12 to 16.

Children under 12 can enter free if they are accompanied by an adult.

The tournament kicks off at 10am with the final at 4.15pm.

The draw for the 50 shirt sponsor will be made by Sailor's daughter at the presentation of the trophy so anyone who has not returned their form needs to get it to the club or to a committee member by tomorrow lunchtime.

There is still time to obtain a form from the club which will be open during the tournament.
