Great Yarmouth & District Football League

THE first domestic semi-final of the season took place on the Beaconsfield, for the HA Holmes League Cup.

The holders Catfield booked a sixth straight final on April 6 as they beat a good Bohemians outfit 4-1.

Goals from Adam Thompson, Chad Pillar, John Bell and Ross Goodwin ensured Catfield a return to the final.

They are also aiming to win a fourth treble in six seasons.

They will meet the winners of the second semi-final between Yarmouth International and MK United, who play tomorrow.

The two teams met in a league at Mill Lane and it was MK United who took the honours as they won a remarkable game 10-5. Albion meanwhile closed the gap at the top of Division One to just three points as they won comfortably 8-0 at Feathers.

Another remarkable game saw Yarmouth Peelers lead 3-0 at Yarmouth United before an amazing comeback saw the teams share the spoils.

The result means it is now Feathers who drop into the relegation zone, a point from safety.

It appears any one from three to go down as Caister United A are almost certainly down now. They were defeated 11-1 at Norfolk n Chance who in the meantime moved up to fifth in a fine first season in Division One.

The race for the Division Two championship is looking like a two-horse race as the top two both won to pull away from the chasing pack.

Leaders Caister CC collected three points by beating Martham A 7-0 on the Beaconsfield.

Second-place Belton also had a fairly comfortable result against an out of sorts Caister Youth winning 8-2.

The top two clash tomorrow on the Beaconsfield in a match that will have a say in deciding the destination of the title.

Arches meanwhile moved up to third as they defeated previous third-placed side South Yarmouth 3-0 at Halvergate.

The result leaves Arches eight points behind second but do have a game in hand.

Prostar Windows meanwhile had a good 3-0 win over Carpathians who seem out of sorts since Christmas.

Another good game was at Mill Lane as MK United Reserves and Wellington shared the points with another 3-3 draw.

Tomorrow’s matches will go a long way to deciding several trophies as GY International and MK clash in a league cup semi-final.

Prostar Windows take on Arches in the Burgess Cup where Prostar must win by three clear goals to progress to a semi-final with Caister Youth, anything less will give Belton progress to that semi-final.

Also there is a Wiltshire Cup quarter-final replay between Feathers and GY United which is played to a winner to set up a semi-final with Albion.

The top two in Division Two also clash.

The date of the Norfolk Primary Cup final has been announced as Friday, April 15 at Emerald Park, Gorleston. Hopefully all players, officials and supporters of the league will attend to support league side Belton in the county showpiece final.
