Great Yarmouth And District Football League

CATFIELD completed a cup double Easter Monday when they retained the Wiltshire Cup with a 3-1 win over Albion.

Both teams took 10 minutes to get into the game but then it came to life. Adam Thompson went round the keeper only to smash the ball against the bar. Albion sprung forward with Peter Oldham clean through, but Molloy saved well.

Catfield took the lead against the run of play as Pillar outfoxed a defender and keeper to fire into the roof of the net.

Within seconds of the restart Albion should have been level but shot wide. Albion came off at half-time one down but having had the better chances and the majority of possession.

Catfield showed their true class as a 20-minute spell in the second half put them out of sight. Two goals from Adam Thompson put them three ahead, although Albion again had a one-on-one which Molloy saved.

Albion scored a late consolation but Catfield again lifted the Wiltshire Cup as they attempt another treble.

Three points tomorrow against MK United will see them lift the first division championship on the Magdalen.

The final of the Percy Nockolds Trophy was played between Peelers of the first division and Caister CC, top of Division Two after both teams’ semi-final wins on the Mag.

Caister CC bounced back from the Burgess Cup final defeat to exact revenge on Belton by dumping them out 4-2 to book a final appearance.

Peelers had a tough semi-final against Caister Youth but progressed by 2-1. At the time of going to press the result was not known.

Caister CC have an arguably bigger game tomorrow as they travel to play Belton in a match that will almost certainly decide the destination of the league.

Belton had a walkover Saturday as Martham could not raise a side. They sit five points behind Caister but with three games more played.

Caister CC picked up three points in a 2-1 win against Prostar Windows while Wellington won 6-5 in a thriller at Caister Youth. Arches and MK United Reserves picked up a point apiece after a 1-1 draw.

In Division One, Norfolk n Chance won a very spirited match 2-1 against GY International with a last-minute winner.

Yarmouth United have really hit some form of late. They defeated Feathers 6-2 at Mill Lane as they secured their first division status.

MK United kept their slim hopes of the title alive with a 4-2 win at home to Peelers at Burgh Castle.
