After last week’s first league defeat in eight years it was interesting how Catfield responded in their biggest match of the season as they played Gt Massingham from the North West Norfolk League in the semi-finals of the Norfolk Junior Cup with a Carrow Road date for the winners.

In a very tight match that arguably Catfield had the better of in terms of possession and chances and it was they who struck the killer blow on 25 minutes when a quickly taken corner kick was met by the head of Lee Knell who finished with his head. Despite this both sides looked to get that next goal and the home side had a couple chances to extend there lead but with 15 minutes to go it was hearts in mouth time as Gt Massingham missed a glorious chance to level. This was the best attack they offered and after that Catfield saw out the game by a goal to nil to book a Norfolk Junior Cup Final date against Anglian Combination side Mundford who had defeated Haven Bridge in the last 16. The final will be played at Carrow Road on Tuesday, May 14 with a 7.30pm kick off. Congratulations goes to all at Catfield. Two ties were also played this week in the quarter finals of the leagues prestigious Wiltshire Cup. The holders Caister Roma made it into the semi finals after a 4-1 win of Division 2 high flyer’s Prostar Windows with a brace for Woods and goals for Mccormack and Land. They will face Haven Bridge United away in the semi finals to be played next Saturday after they defeated Albion Tramway 3-2 on the Beaconsfield. Haven at times couldn’t get going and it forced Malloy into a couple top saves to keep his side in front.

On to League Cup action and South Yarmouth’s semi final dream is over after they went down 3-1 at home to Gt Yarmouth International in an intimidating game. The result gives International hope to push on for the rest of the season.

Over in the Burgess Cup the four semi finalists are now known but the playing order is not but hopefully will be concluded tomorrow. Caister A as expected won Group A After they won 6-0 At Martham A. They will have a home semi final on March 16. The visitors will be either Caister Roma Reserves or Prostar Windows depending on tomorrows match. Prostar only need a point to win Group B and as such have a home semi final on March 23. Prostar though did go to Filby in the league and lose so still open to either side. Meanwhile Caister Roma Reserves did all they can by defeating Grosvenor Casino 2-0 on the Beaco. Grosvenor must be congratulated themselves so far on their debut season. The other game in Group B saw Filby & Runham draw 3-3 with Wanderers and as such both sides are eliminated from the competition. The final game in Group A saw winner takes all as MK Shrubs Reserves entertained Peelers. It was the home side who progressed with a 6-0 scoreline to earn an away semi final on March 23.

This week sees the last week before the leagues transfer window closes. Clubs can still sign players on after this date but transfers must be done before February 28.

All clubs will now have early March fixtures out so please check email for these - Ryan Starkey.
