Great Yarmouth and District Football League

LAST season's champions Catfield's home game with Reedham was the pick of this week's matches.

Reedham, under the guidance of Bob Brown, where the hungrier side first half and Catfield can thank Taurean Molloy who saved them at least twice. But Catfield struck on half-time when Adam Thompson coolly finished under pressure.

After the break and Catfield came out quicker and strikes from Chad Pillar and two from Darren Lamb finished the contest after an hour. Ross Charlton slotted in a consolation from a rebound from a fine save from Molloy to give Reedham a deserved goal for all their efforts. Final score: 4-1.

MK United started their season with a fine 7-0 win against Shrublands. With strikes from the Hogg brothers, Evans, Ingram and Thompson completing the scoring. MK will face a Great Yarmouth International side on Gorleston Rec this week that is growing in confidence after a solid first season in Division One.

They started with a 5-3 win over Great Yarmouth Peelers which included a hat-trick for Diogo Fernandes. Albion and Lacon Arms fought out a 1-1 draw, and Tramways - who survived the drop last season - fought out a 1-1 draw with Hemsby Reserves on their top-flight debut.

The result of the day in Division Two belongs to Bohemians who defeated MK United Reserves 4-0, a brace apiece from Kieron Decks and Nathan Derry completed the scoring against MK who had a penalty saved by stand-in keeper Kevin Mileham.

Prostar Windows were a goal down early before a Mike Wiseman strike levelled it up. Dean Sutton gave Prostar the lead but Paperclip hit back before Preston Clarke won the game in the last minute for Prostar.

Norfolk and Chance, two up after 20 minutes, were pegged back by Caister A through Shawn Hunn and Carl Hatton. But Chance struck twice towards the end to take the points against the youngsters of Caister A who only had Paul Jacobs from last season's squad playing.

Goals from Adrian Coote after 16 minutes and Jimmy Youngs on 74 won a close encounter 2-1 for Carpathians at South Yarmouth, who could have equalised but for a brilliant save from Wayne Flowerday in the dying moments.

Great Yarmouth United, after a turbulent summer, had something to smile about as they accounted for Gorleston Wanderers 2-1 on the Beaco.
