PAULIUS Maciuvillius of Kingfisher ABC won the senior novice final on Sunday at Nottingham when he met J Paul of Golden Gloves ABC.

This was Maciuvillius' third bout in three weekends. In the quarter-finals he travelled to Southampton, had a clear on points over A Dicks of Wecock ABC but had to fight all the way to secure his victory.

A week later he was at Aldershot and boxed M Boodgerman of St Paul's ABC, a very hard bout in which Maciuvillius had to be at his best. His opponent was ready to stand toe to toe and trade punches but Maciuvillius was a narrow winner.

The third weekend Maciuvillius, boxing at his best, had Paul under pressure from the first bell, Maciuvillius was trying to pick single shots and move, forcing Paul to hold held when close. The Kingfisher was getting to him more in the second round with head and body punches. Paul was again doing a lot of holding to stop Maciuvillius from working and was warned by the referee. By the end of the round Maciuvillius was 2-1 points down.

The third round Maciuvillius was dominating the bout, catching Paul, punching to head and body. Paul was still throwing single shots and holding in close and was again warned by the referee.

In the last round Maciuvillius kept up the constant pressure, hitting hard with both hands. The referee gave Paul a public warning for holding, which was a loss of two points just before the bell.

Maciuvillius landed a solid right to the head which sent Paul into the ropes. But the bell sounded to finish the bout and it was no surprise to see Maciuvillius' hand raised as champion in the senior novice final.

Henri Potter of Kingfisher ABC lost his first bout of the season when he met H Orr of Harwich ABC.

From the first bell Orr came forward with two-handed attacks to head and body, Potter taking most on the arms and gloves and counter-punching when he could.

The second round was much the same. Potter was doing more punching but the home supporters were cheering loudly every time Orr landed any punches.

In the last round Potter took the fight to his opponent and carried the harder punch and had Orr giving ground.

It was definitely the best round and Potter was on top at the final bell, but unfortunately Potter let it slip away from him in the first two rounds - but it was very close decision.
