There was a 100 per cent success rate for members of the East Coast Black Belt School attending the EKKA Championships in Ipswich.

Eight members of the school's karate team competed in eight different categories, with each coming away with at least a silver medal, and three securing first place and the gold medal.

Early in the day father and daughter, orange belt Keith Nixon and black belt Sigourney Nixon, took silver and gold medals respectively in their kata sections, setting the winning tone for the day's event.

Shortly afterwards, club junior Tayme Cooke took first place and the gold medal in the boys' sixth to fourth Kyu (4ft 2in-4ft 8in) fighting, with the third gold being won later in the day by Paul Webster in the men's third to first Kyu fighting.

Young black belt Daniel Mallett added to his personal medal haul by taking second position and silver medal in the boy's 4ft 8in-5ft 2in section, whilst fellow junior fighter Nicky Ford matched Mallett's achievement in the third to first Kyu category. Representing the club's ladies, junior brown belt Sophie Kemp and senior white belt Kathy Hall both went on to take silver medal positions in the third to first Kyu and 0 to seventh Kyu respectively.

All those taking part were clearly thrilled with the day's results, which take the club's medal tally for the year to 17 gold, 20 silver and 22 bronze medals.

East Coast Black Belt School has training sessions around Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft.
