ON Saturday, Great Yarmouth Swimming Club sent its sole competitor to the Norfolk and Suffolk combined long distance championships at the UEA sports park in Norwich.
Jack Utting became Norfolk 11 years 800m freestyle champion.
Club coach Garry Jarvis said: “I cannot underestimate Jack's achievement, as this was his first real race at this event. He had only swum this event once previously in a club time trial.
He was placed in heat two and found himself against some older competitors, but led his race from start to finish. He took nearly a full minute off his previous recorded best, and beat his nearest rival by 27 seconds. His time also gives him an entry into the prestigious Eastern Regional Championships later this year.
“I am proud of what Jack has achieved and this is a testament to all the hard work that he has put into training over the past
few months.”
Jack was presented with his winner's plaque by the GYSC chairperson Poala Moore (pictured).
