Following their relegation Winterton showed a number of changes, fielding only seven of the team that played the last game of 2007 and were led by vice-captain Kevin Percival against Great Yarmouth.

Winterton were asked to make first use of a good-looking wicket prepared by Dave Hambrook. Clarke and Wes Noble-Parker got the innings off to a promising start. They took the score to 78 in the 20th over and had looked relatively untroubled when Oxborough yorked Clarke for 29.

One run later, Noble-Parker was also bowled by Oxborough five runs short of a deserved 50. Geoff Roper and Martin Witheridge took the score to 117 when Witheridge called for an optimistic single and was run out by a distance for 16. Liam Boylan shortly followed for nought. Josh Austin and Roper moved the score on to 139 in the 36th over when things rapidly went downhill.

Austin (5), Roper for a well-worked 36 were followed by the last four wickets tumbling for five runs for a 154 total.

Sole and Ruddick began solidly against Mark Hambrook and Ben Utting until Hambrook got one to move slightly away from Ruddick (8) and Noble-Parker took a good catch low down to his left. Kapila joined Sole and looked dangerous in his brief stay. Sole (10) was then run out.

With the score still on 29, Utting pinned Kapila lbw. The experienced Nicholls and Fitzimmons consolidated until Utting, who was in the middle of probably his best spell since joining the club, forced Nicholls (9) into an error and the batsman lofted a catch to Austin at cover.

The game was fairly evenly poised at 49-4 when Percival gave debutant Tom Whichelow the ball. With his fourth ball he bowled Fitzimmons (15) and in his next over took two more wickets in a dream start.

At 58-7 Yarmouth's chances of victory had almost disappeared. Utting finished his 12-over spell conceding only 19 runs and taking two wickets. Tom Roper replaced him and also claimed two quick wickets, including the dangerous Hak, who was smartly held at cover by Boylan off a full-blooded cover drive.

Percival then brought himself on to administer the coup de grace and with his fifth delivery he bowled White for 15 to leave Yarmouth all out for 84 and Winterton the victors by 68 runs.
