When Glyn Bishop had a heart attack during a round of golf at Gorleston three years ago it was the actions of his playing partners, and the prompt arrival of the East Anglian Air Ambulance, which saved his life.

Glyn’s son Marcus decided to organise a competition at Caldecott Hall as a means of saying thankyou, while also raising money for the charity.

And after a successful event, which attracted 18 teams of four, he was able to hand over the impressive sum of £3,643.15.

It was an emotional day for the family, with Marcus recalling the day a game of golf almost ended in tragedy.

“On November 13, 2014 my father had heart failure at Gorleston Golf Club whilst playing in a competition with three of his friends,” he said.

“On the 18th hole he collapsed and required immediate medical attention. If it was not for the fast actions of his fellow golfers he would have died on the course.

“John Bidwell carried out CPR for nearly 10 minutes while John Smith waited for the ambulance and Andrew Crisp contacted the emergency services.

“On arrival of the ambulance the East Anglian Air Ambulance was called to take my father to Norfolk and Norwich Hospital.

“My father was put in an induced coma and taken by air to seek medical care. The services of his friends and East Anglian Air Ambulance saved his life.

“I set up a company called iTracked Ltd last year and decided to arrange something to say thank you to East Anglian Air Ambulance and my father’s friends.”

Making the day extra special was the fact that Glyn competed at Caldecott Hall with same three playing partners who helped save his life three years ago.

The winning team from Vauxhall Mallards Cricket Club, Troy Allen, Tom Miller, Hudson Delucchi and Will Grisley, won the top prize donated by TM Ski and their Italian partners, a three night stay with golf in the northern Italian region of Lombardia

Second placed Sentinal Leisure Trust (Wayne Nixon, Chris Ames, Micky Spillane and Darren Cox) won bags courtesy of Snowfit Norwich and four meal vouchers courtesy of Marmaris Oulton Broad and Lowestoft. Third placed James Chamberlain, Neal Stannard, Gareth Motteram and Alex Aldread won tickets to Potters Leisure and golf balls.
