Winterton fought hard for a losing draw against Norfolk Alliance Division Four table-toppers Bungay at a blustery Maltings Meadow.

Bowling first on a hard track, Winterton found the going hard despite some aggressive fast bowling from the recalled Charlie Lockhart and he was rewarded when the aggressive George Mattocks was bowled for 20.

This only brought the in-form Tom York, with three centuries in six league innings under his belt to the crease. He started equally as aggressive but the Winterton captain Kevin Percival bowled line and length to restrict the scoring but York remained untroubled while wickets fell at the other end as batsmen got started but never went on.

Percival, Ben Utting and Lockhart all took two wickets each but the innings belonged to York as he made the most of a dropped chance in the 80’s to post his fourth century of the season finally succumbing on the long-on boundary for 102.

Winterton stuck to their task after the quick start to the Bungay innings to restrict the home side to 229-7 from their 45 overs.

Josh Austin (28) and Fred Playford (64) got Winterton off to good start too as the pair shared a 52-run stand before Austin was out in the 13th over. Once the partnership was broken Bungay’s bowlers gained some control and the run rate subsided and like the first innings Winterton’s batsmen couldn’t progress after getting starts.

Geoff Roper was dismissed for 26 and with Martin Witheridge and Wes Noble-Parker trying to up the rate they fell victim to Tom York who was just as impressive with the ball.

It was left to Bryn Clarke to see the innings out for a losing draw and help the Tonnies claim eight points and keep them in touch with the top half of the table.

Winterton A moved up to second in Norfolk League Division Four with another impressive performance, this time at home to Great Yarmouth A. Richard Larner and Tom Whichelow bowled tightly as the Yarmouth batsmen struggled to get any momentum but wickets were elusive with both bowlers picking up a wicket each in the opening 24 overs but conceding only 42 runs.

The introduction of Craig Page into the attack soon changed the game when he claimed 5-17 from just four overs to dismiss Yarmouth for just 97 in the 41st over.Dan Crawley (39 not out) and Karl Lawes (21) wasted no time and Danny Snowling (37 not out) finished the game off in style with a six to give Winterton a nine-wicket win in the 20th over.

Winterton ladies had an early start on Sunday morning as they made the trip to Garboldisham for their third game of the season.

The home side batted first and despite their strong batting line-up the found runs hard to come buy thanks to an impressive bowling and fielding display from all of the Winterton side. Particularly impressive were Carol Bostock (2-11) and Gabi King (1-14) with the latter taking a smart low catch.

Debutants Louise King and Paula Mayes backed up the bowlers with some excellent fielding and helped keep Garboldisham to 109-3 from their 20 overs with Megan Hogg top scoring with 27.

With the bat Winterton got off to a decent start with the ever reliable Janet Southgate and Allison Cropley (12) rotating the strike and finding the boundary on occasion.

When Cropley was dismissed, Amy Giles followed her own good performance in the field by batting sensibly to assist Southgate in the run chase. Giles was eventually dismissed which sparked a batting collapse which saw Winterton fall 30 runs short on 79-7 from their overs, Southgate finishing unbeaten on 40. K Evans and Raven both took two wickets each towards the end of the innings to seal the result for the home side in the Thetford Grammar School League clash.
