The first table tennis tournament of the new season, the Dickie Moore Cup, was held at the Great Yarmouth Conservative Club.

Players were drawn into four groups. Paul Wright Junior was unbeaten and topped the A group.

Lewis Carby took runner-up spot when he defeated Ray Lee 21-13 22-20 but he was pushed to three sets by Tad Maciocha and James Smith played well losing to Tad 21-14 23-20.

Although Martin Clarke topped Group B the player who stood out was youngster Matt Current, who took the second spot with some intelligent play, especially against Darren Smith who he beat in two straight games.

Ryan Moore was the clear winner of Group C. Curtis Beales took second when he defeated Bob Lamb 18-21 21-17 21-14. Andy Knell scored two victories, both in three against Mike Woolston and Bob. In Group D. Wally Ladmore was the winner taking four points. Martin Pigott scored three after beating Paul Wright Snr in three tight games. Paul scored two points but Dominic Cutter could only muster one point when he beat Colin Fortescue 22-20 22-20. The quarter-finals saw Paul Jnr beat Martin Pigott 21-19 22-20. Wally beat Lewis 21-16 10-21 21-12, Martin Clarke beat Curtis 21-13 21-5 and Ryan beat Matt 21-7 21-7.

The first semi-final saw Paul win 21-12 21-15 against Ryan. Martin Clarke had a tight game against Wally, losing the first 15-21 but took the next two 21-19 21-12.

Martin won an entertaining final 22-20 21-19. Prizes were presented by President Edna Fletcher.
