Potter Heigham BC

At home to Ludham in the North Walsham Triples League on Monday night it was a very close game.

Sarah Smith, Andrea Morton and Andrew Flynn were always ahead winning 28-9. John Holland’s block finished level 15-15 while the other two Potter blocks lost. Overall 61-66 (3-9).

As expected it was a difficult game away to Martham A on Tuesday night in the Yarmouth League. Sarah Smith, Andrew Flynn and Mike High after leading all the way, dropped three on the last end to finish 18-18. That was about as good as it got with all other rinks well beaten. Overall 58-101 (�-6�)

Another wet night in the Watering Bowl on Thursday night against Martham B at Caister. Andrew Flynn, Andrea Morton and Mike High eventually won a very closely fought contest 22-16, but again there was no joy for the rest of the team. Overall 64-104.

On Friday night away to Rollesby in the Yarmouth League points were again difficult to come by. Robin Monsey, Mark Benton and Richard Smith picked up Potter’s only point of the evening winning by a single shot 18-17. Overall 53–87 (1-6).

On Sunday afternoon the rain held off for the B and E High open triples cup, after an enjoyable afternoon of bowls three blocks had three wins but the clear winners with an impressive shot difference of +32 were club triples captain Mark Benton along with his wife Pat and Colin Grant.

Good Luck to Mike High and Robin Monsey this Sunday, representing Potter Heigham in the NCBA senior pairs eastern area final at Caister.

Bradwell BC

BRADWELL B’s challenge in the Lord Fermoy Cup came to an end on Thursday with both teams losing at home and away to a strong side from Norfolk Bowling Club.

In the Hansells EBA Mens Fours Bradwell A continued their success and position at the top of the league with an all rinks victory over second placed Gorleston with Malcolm French, Phil Ellis, Ken Saward and Colin Deverill winning 22-14. The B team away at Great Plumstead put up a strong fight and came away with four points out of five with Peter King, Peter Smith, Peter Ridler and John Watson on 20-11.

The Men’s Lovewell Blake Malta Cup saw the A team defeated away at Freethorpe A by 5� points to 1� with Ken Saward, Phil Ellis and Pat Morris scoring well all through their game to finish 26-11. The B team at home against Freethorpe B gained one point thanks to Terry Gallant, Peter Smith and John Watson 18-8. In the County Federation League Bradwell Reds and Greens were at home. The Reds had a 5-4 victory against Caister with Peter Smith, Peter Ridler and Keith Cooke winning 22-13 and the Greens a 3-6 defeat against Filby with two of the points coming from Dianne Purnell, Alan Harrison and Dahlia MacDonald finishing 18-14.

In the Lothingland League away at Northgate in Yarmouth the home side showed Bradwell the way by winning 103-42, Bradwell’s only winning block coming from Jean Fagan, Hugh Clifton and Brian Goffin 16-14.

In amongst the sunshine and showers over the weekend both drives took place. On the Saturday, 22 ventured into competition and the emerging winner was John Carrier on 28-9 with stalwart Peter King in second place on 23-11. On Monday, this time with 20 taking part, Paul Lown scooped victory with a high score of 30-9, very nearly caught by, but finishing second, was George Coxsey on 29-7.

Caister BC

Week commencing June 11

EBA: In the Hansell League one win and one loss. No Malta Cup matches. Caister lost in the Bales Cup playing at home to Acle 50-75.

Federation: Caister B lost two home games. The ladies won one and lost one. Caister B lost at home against Martham A in the Donny Pearce Cup

County League: Castaways and Centurions both lost at home. Caister A won away at Hickling.

County Cup: The ladies had the best result of the week travelling all the way to Holt where they beat Holt Ladies 60-46

Week commencing June 18.

EBA: Mixed results in the Hansell League – the A team lost a very close match at Thorpe Rec 57-58 (1�-3�). The B team won a very close match at home against Norfolk Bowls Club 62-61 (3-2).

In the Malta Cup there were three games, with Caister losing all three. The men playing away at Acle B lost 59-64 (2-5). The ladies had two games away to Gt Yarmouth BC losing 59-64 (2-4) then at home against Acle 46-55 (1-5).

Federation: In the Yarmouth & District Leagues, Caister A had a win playing Woodbastwick in a closely fought match 82-79 (5-2) whereas the ladies at home to Martham lost 44-71 (0-6). Caister A played at Martham against Burlingham in the Watering Bowl and were well beaten 31-69.

In the County League Caister A away against Bradwell Reds lost a close game 51-56 (4-5). Caister Castaways had two games against Burlingham (due to an earlier cancellation) first away losing 46-70 (0-9) the even worse losing at home 35-75 (0-9). Caister Centurions played Martham Hawks at home and got their revenge for the defeat in the first game of the season by winning 76-32 (9-0).

Martham BC

Martham B Team were successful in the Watering Bowl beating Potter Heigham 104-64, so they are in the semi-final.

They also had a win against Gorleston Conservatives gaining six points winning 81-64. Martham Ladies were away to Caister, winning on all rinks the ladies won 71-39 (6-0). Top block was Jane Rush, Monica Fisher, Edna Land 14-27. Away at top of the league Winterton in the Norfolk League, Martham Harriers found the going difficult and only came home with two points. The winning rink was Maddie Balls, Keith Williams, Mike Fisher 23-11.

Rollesby BC

Away to Filby in the Broadland League, Rollesby won on two rinks and lost on two but the 24-15 of F Walker, T Hewitt and E Taylor together with the 31-10 of J Avery, J Mason and T Avery was enough to earn a 5-2 points win. Overall score 79-74.

Rollesby lost interest in the D Pearce Cup away to Acle losing on all four rinks. A creditable effort from two rinks both losing by one shot but a 9-37 on another rink put paid to any thoughts of progressing to the third round. Overall score 56-95.

Despite home advantage, Rollesby were unable to win against Gorleston Conservatives in the Yarmouth League in a very close match, losing on two rinks again by a single shot. Overall score 68-76, points 1-6. (J Temple, M Coots, B Temple 21-15)

Entertaining South Walsham Mallards in the County League, Rollesby enjoyed a rare win 64-49, points 7-2. (J Mason, A Christie, D Gammon 28-15, J Temple, B Robinson, B Temple 25-11).

An afternoon match at home against Repps in the Duffield League, gave Rollesby a 63-56 win, points 6-4. (J Temple, D Gammon, R Blunden 22-9, J Mason, A Christie, K Scott-Greenard 18-12).

Away to Runham in the Yarmouth League has historically been a fixture where visitors come away with very little. However, this year was a different story. Wins by all four visiting blocks brought a 7-0 points victory. (J Temple, T Hewitt, B Temple 25-15, M Coots, F Walker, J Catchpole, 19-18, J Avery, T Coots, T Avery 20-12, J Mason, E Taylor, G Curtis 22-20).

Rollesby followed that up with a 6-1 victory at home to neighbours Potter Heigham. (C Johnson, T Wright, G Curtis 18-13, M Coots, T Coots, J Catchpole 19-15, J Avery, E Taylor, T Avery 33-7), overall score 87-53.

Rollesby bowed out of another cup competition, losing against Martham A in the second round of The Watering Bowl at the neutral Burlingham green. Losing on all four rinks, the overall score was 38-100.

Fleggburgh Private BC

FLEGGBURGH Private Bowls Club held the three wood open bowls tournament on Sunday for the Peter Grimmer Memorial Cup.

The winning block was E Bloom, F Brumsby and F Turner. The club wish to thank all the helpers and also all those who donated prizes on the day. A total of �450 was raised for Palliative Care (East).
