The Wymondham 10k race on Sunday was the first race of the year for Great Yarmouth & District Athletic Club members.

This race had been postponed from New Year's Day due to the weather conditions. Five GYDAC runners competed in the race on an undulating course around the country lanes near to Wymondham, on a dry and not-so-cold morning.

John England, sole male GYDAC runner, finished in a good 167th place in a well-paced time of 53:59.

First lady club runner home was Dawn Clegg, who was very pleased with her run, adding more mileage to her London Marathon training. She recorded 65:02 in 249th position.

In a welcome return to racing for Denise Goodwin, she surprised herself with a good run, finishing in 252nd in 68:07. Next came Maureen England, disappointed with her performance in 255th in 69:04. Elaine Haggarty was fourth lady home with a steady run of 69:47

in 258th.

Thanks went to the great marshals and members of Wymondham AC who encouraged everyone around the route.

County medals for the Norfolk Postal Marathon were given out and John England received a silver for second in his age and Maureen England a bronze for third in her age group.

Awards for the 2009 Grand Prix were also presented for competing in five races. Elaine Haggarty, Maureen England, Sue Fraser, Dawn Clegg and John England all received awards.

Next race for GYDAC is the Reedham 10 miles on Sunday, January 31.
