The Coastal Short Mat Triples Championship at Hemsby Hall saw 13 teams take part in four groups playing over four mats.

The groups of three played over 12 ends, and the group of four over 8 ends, thus ensuring that all competitors played over an equal amount of ends, namely 24.

The winners of each group went through to the semi-finals.

In Group 1 Bradwell Blue A won with two wins and 30 shots. The team was Jenny Walker (lead) Teresa Elliott (2) and Mike Harvey as skip.

In Group 2 Both South Walsham B and Woodbastwick Owls A finished equal with 5 points and and 25 shots. A one end play-off saw South Walsham win. Team: Peter Kingsley, S Sims and Ted Sims as skip.

Group 3 was won by Bradwell Red with a win and a draw with 27 shots. Team: Anne Baker (lead) Joan Bayfield (2) and Jackie Fortescue, that fast and furious Coastal Singles Champ of two years ago! as skip.

Group 4 was won by Woodbastwick Eagles. Team: Derek Oakes as lead, Trevor Hallett (2) and Tony Wright as skip. The team notched up two wins with a massive 35 shots. Trevor Hallett was this year’s singles champion, with Tony Wright as runner-up.

In the semi-finals Woodbastwick Eagles played Bradwell Red A. The games were played over 10 ends rather than the usual 8. Woodbastwick Eagles were the victors with 13 shots to 3. The result was not really a true reflection of the match played. In the other half Bradwell Blue A managed a fine win over South Walsham A.

The final between the Bradwell Blue A team and Woodbastwick Eagles was a real humdinger. The match was played over 10 ends. Round 6 saw the Blues win by one shot with some precision play by Jenny, Teresa and Mike. Round 7 saw the Blue squad, notching up four shots to take the lead 8-5. The score going into the final end was 9-6 to the Blues. The Eagles played like Trojans. They were holding two shots, with a possible third on the way. A 9-9 draw would have seen a play-off, however Mike played an excellent backhand shot which prevented a possible third by the Eagles.

Teresa, as lead, played some fine shots while Jenny showed her star quality. Mike excelled himself, playing as cool as a cucumber. For the Blue team to beat the Eagles 9-8 was a fine achievement.

The Coastal AGM followed by the Coastal Pairs, will take place at Hemsby Village Hall on Sunday, March 18 (10-30).
