THE national finals of British Colleges' Sport (BCS) are the culmination of a year's hard work for students from all over England, Wales and Scotland. East Norfolk Sixth Form College sent another strong contingent of local students to represent the east region at this year's finals, based at Loughborough University, but also using facilities at Nottingham and Leicester.

East Norfolk Sixth Form College sent another strong contingent of local students to represent the east region at this year's finals, based at Loughborough University, but also using facilities at Nottingham and Leicester.

The BCS national finals incorporates 44 events in 14 different sports (over 2,000 competitors) and is played in a round robin format against all the other eight regional teams.

The east team achieved considerable success, finishing in second place overall, behind the London and South East Region.

East Norfolk successes came across 10 events.

The men's cross-country regional team included James Jackson-Nichols, Damian Rogers and Micah Rogers, winning gold. Alice Wicks won bronze with the women's team.

The mixed doubles table tennis pairing of Hettie Baker and Brendan McManus took silver.

Shanise Webster and Emily Pestka won silver in the east's women's swimming team and Callum McColgan and Sam Munro were fourth in the

men's team.

In the trampoline regional men's team, James Sutton, Liam Dyer and Ashley Moore secured bronze and Taylor Atkins was fifth with the women's novice team.

Luke Cox and Dan Farrow gained bronze in the men's doubles in badminton, while Serena Verney and Jess Rutherford were fourth in the women's event.

Izzy Rothon and Laura Thacker were fourth in the east's women's rugby team.

In men's singles tennis, Jack Edwards was fifth.

Craig Snelling was one of the hockey umpires and six other students assisted with events - (Richard Graham, Tegan McCann, Kelly Drew, Craig Alexander, Ross Catchpole and Sharnie Boast).

The students were supported by five members of the college's sports staff and head of department, Steve Mooney, said: “The students were fantastic throughout the weekend and they all got an awful lot out of this super event. The members of our Student Sports Management Group (SSMG) were there as volunteers and were perfect ambassadors for our college.”
