THE East Norfolk Sixth Form College Men's rugby squad was at full strength for the Eastern Regional tournament at Shelford RFC in Cambridgeshire.

The East Norfolk squad played some great rugby and as a result of their efforts equalled the college record of reaching the semi-finals.

The first pool match was against Havering SFC, and despite several worrying moments the East Norfolk team managed to win a tough encounter 10-0, thanks to tries from Matt Page and Chris Jennings.

The second game was against Colchester SFC, who have won this tournament on numerous occasions, but their squad was severely weakened as they were still in the Daily Mail National knock-out cup.

This game proved to be a tight affair as East Norfolk scraped through 12-5, with tries from Peter Murkett and Jamie Afshinpour.

The final pool game decided who would top the pool as both teams were undefeated.

East Norfolk stormed to a two-try (Jamie Jenner and James Doggett) lead, but Luton never gave up and came back to level the score.

The deadlock was finally broken by MoM Matt Page, who showed blistering pace to score the winning try in the corner.

This victory meant that the East Norfolk team had to play Braintree College in the quarter-finals.

This proved to be a very one-sided match as East Norfolk won comfortably 48-0 with tries from Jamie Afshinpour, Joe Payne, Raleigh Jenner-Hillard, James Dennis, Steven Fisher, Robert Dodson, Lewis Disbury and Antony Slade.

East Norfolk progressed into the semi-finals to play, ironically, the Luton side beaten in the pool matches.

This time the Luton players came away victors, as they came from two tries down to score their winning try just as the final whistle blew.

The squad will now turn its attention to the seven-a-side game as the county tournament is coming up in March.

Squad: Lewis Disbury (captain), James Dennis, Steven Fisher, Jamie Jenner, Antony Slade, Raleigh Jenner-Hillard, Jamie Afshinpour, James Doggett, Peter Murkett, Matt Page, Chris Jennings, Robert Dodson, Joe Payne, Jonno Stanhope-Smith and Andy Hewitt.
