Great Yarmouth Town take a journey into the unknown tomorrow when they travel to play Ramsgate.

The Kent coastal side play in the Ryman Premier Division after back-to-back promotions from the Kent League and Ryman First Division in the past two seasons, so this will be a testing task for the Bloaters, writes Gerry Brown.

There is still time for local businesses to sign up to the Bloaters' free party evening when the new Bloaters Business Club will be launched on August 4.

Chairman Stephen Brierley said: “The Business Club will be a twice-monthly informal lunchtime networking opportunity to meet like-minded business people/sports fans in a relaxed atmosphere. The sessions will include presentations, guest appearances, business advice and contacts and, of course, lunch.”

A number of other initiatives will be launched at the event which begins at 7pm in Legends Bar at the Wellesley.

Gt Yarmouth Town 2, Lowestoft 1

Facing the Ridgeons League champions, but a much-changed side from last year's Blues, the Bloaters dominated the early stages, Yarmouth almost took the lead after 17 minutes from a Martyn Magee shot.

Two minutes later Liam Bartley chased a ball into the Lowestoft area. An awkward bounce deceived keeper David Attridge, who managed to get a touch, but Adam Sewell stole in at the back post to put away the loose ball.

Christy Finch hit one over the Yarmouth bar and Reece Hunn shot wide after Lowestoft had a shot cleared off the line. But Yarmouth always looked worth another goal, and a superb save by Michael Hilton, from a Cris Sandford shot that looked a certain goal paved the way in first-half added time. Vida Formoso pumped a free-kick high into the area and Jake Reed jumped to nod home his third goal in as many games.

Sewell brought a save the equal of Hilton's out of Attridge soon after the re-start and the Lowestoft keeper was soon diving to keep out another effort from the Bloaters.

As the substitutions began the game became a bit disjointed, but the Yarmouth efforts to match the famed fitness of Lowestoft were succeeding and they rarely looked in any danger.

Adey Ager and Marcus Saunders, aided by substitute Craig Roberts, kept a tight rein on the Blues who finally scored through Will Smart with about 10 minutes remaining. It was the first goal Yarmouth had conceded in three pre-season games.

Manager Paul Tong was delighted with the result but struck a cautionary note when he said you don't win anything in friendlies: “I once won all the pre-season games, then couldn't win a thing in the season!”

He said the team have struck up an understanding and the spirit in the camp is high. “The lads have worked hard in training and there's going to be some tough competition for places!”

North Walsham Town 0, Great Yarmouth Town 2

THE Bloaters won their second pre-season game last Saturday, and it took a workmanlike performance to defeat a determined North Walsham outfit.

Jake Reed broke the first-half deadlock with a close-range finish a few minutes from the interval, and it was not until midway through the second that the win was assured when Alexandre Formoso - one of the three new Portuguese signings - scored with a good finish from the edge of the box.

A third goal then looked on the cards, but the home keeper made a good stop on the line.

Several regular players were unavailable but manager Paul Tong was still able to field the same starting eleven that began the previous match against Sutton Town AFC.

Captain Adey Ager made a return to action from the bench in the second half.
