ACLE Indoor Bowls Club staged their third Premier League Open Bowls Tournament over the weekend and had a full entry of 64 bowlers from around the country.

Entries varied from top club bowlers, keen junior bowlers and several international players including two who have qualified for the World Singles Championships at Potters.

Clubs represented were Boston, Spalding, Watford, Durham, Stanley as well as a strong local card.

The locals finished in the top four places with Acle men’s A team vice-captain Rob Parker losing in the semi-finals along with a Beccles young star player Mark Roberts, who also failed at the last hurdle.

Eventual finalists were both from Norfolk Bowling Club and both are current England internationals.

The final was also a battle of the sexes with Wayne Willgress just taking the honours and a 500 cheque over his clubmate Rebecca Field who had the previous month retained the English under-25s title.

There is great interest in this tournament with over 12,000 hits recorded on the Acle website over the two days with 40 viewers watching the final in the comfort of their homes via the web cams on site.
