BASKETBALL: January and February saw Ormiston Venture Academy and Great Yarmouth High School host the East Norfolk School Sport Partnership U14 Boys and U16 Boys’ Basketball Competitions respectively.
Ormiston Venture, Caister, Great Yarmouth and Cliff Park competed in round robin competitions.
It was a clean swoop for Ormiston Venture, formerly Oriel High Schools, who won both competitions.
Ormiston Venture now head to UEA Sportspark to play in the Norfolk county finals for a place in the regional finals.
Stuart Brunton-Douglas, competition manager, said: “It will be a great experience for the Ormiston teams, representing the East Norfolk School Sport Partnership at the county final and playing basketball on full courts with electronic scoring and buzzers.”
He added: “With all the funding cuts to PE and sport, in the year before the Olympics, it is a great shame that Norfolk youngsters may miss out on opportunities like this in the future.
“Now is the time for schools to prioritise school sport and physical education if there is going to be more competitive sport – the government’s new priority.”
