Cup triumphs for college sides

The men's hockey team from East Norfolk Sixth Form College completed a unique double by joining the college's women as East of England Cup winners. They ran out 4-1 victors in a hard-fought game worthy of a cup final in Cambridge.

An fast break saw opponents Hills Road take an early lead. Shortly after, a skilful manoeuvre by Andrew Devereux on the left wing made it 1-1.

Fast game play from midfielders Nick Mobbs, Pietro Meneghello, Craig Snelling and forward Tom Woodrow maintained the East Norfolk pressure and Snelling struck from the top of the D to make it 2-1 at half-time.

Second half solid defending from Elliot Gooch, Jordan Ball and man-of-the-match Ben Murray kept the ball up with the midfielders and forward Alex Kleyn. Snelling broke free and struck a superb shot into the top corner for 3-1.

Goalkeeper Owen Shuttleworth, saw off a one-on-one Hills Road attack and cleared quickly for Tom Jermy and Joe Symonds to set up Snelling for his

hat-trick and a 4-1 final score.

Coach Kim Pratt said: “The team decided on a new line-up for this game which they had not practised, a risky strategy but one that paid off.

“They gave a solid performance and dominated the second half once they had settled into their new structure. All of them played extremely well and they should be very proud of themselves.”

The team now go on to represent the East of England in the quarter-finals of the National Cup.
