Broadland-Great Yarmouth made the long away trip in the second round of the National Cup to play Burnham-on-Crouch.

The Yarmouth side were in good form and a comfortable away win saw BGY progress to the third round.

Broadland started well, and some early breaks from wing Sammy Jordan and No 8 Adam Towfighi highlighted gaps in the Burnham defence.

Burnham were, however, able to keep Broadland out in the early stages. Broadland again got close but were turned over at the Burnham five-metre line, Burnham tried a clearance kick but second-row Asa Morrison managed to block the kick.

The deflected ball fell in play very close to the posts, flanker Ed Dixon managed to recover the ball, and captain Matt Beckett picked up and drove over for the score (converted Lightfoot).

Broadland's play was a dramatic improvement on recent weeks and scrum-half Simon Ruddick had plenty of options in moving the ball around, centre Mossie Abeysekera came close, supported well by Andy Hewitt and Royce Chiddle, and wing Jake Sewell was causing his opposite man plenty of problems.

Matt Scott adjusted well to the unfamiliar role of centre and the Broadland backs were working well together. The first half ended 7-0.

Richard Bristo joined the front row at the half and brought additional stability to the pack.

Fly-half Lightfoot added a penalty and went close himself to a score on the following attack.

Ed Dixon was also close to a score, good work followed from Broadland with Ryan Gallie and George Jarvis ensuring the attack was kept alive but it was finally Mossie Abeysekera that crossed over for a score that had been a long time in coming.

Broadland began to make changes with James Fogg providing the fresh legs in the pack, full-back Brad Sutherland had a handful of good runs from deep as the Burnham defence were leaving a number of gaps.

Lightfoot added a second penalty to extend Broadland's lead. Teenager Chris Hewitt made his first-team debut on the back row and was followed shortly after by young scrum-half Phil Buckley.

Burnham did up their game and despite a number of solid Broadland tackles they finally went over in the corner to score on the last play of the game (unconverted).
