The Flegg Darts League held its finals night at the Caister Community Centre in a party atmosphere.

The event had a bit of spice added to it, with walk-on music for the players as they approached the stage. Although the darts were not of a high standard overall, there were some highs – notably Lisa Garman’s 180 against Kerry Jobson in the all-Centurion ladies’ singles final. Lisa went on to win 2-0.

The best leg of the evening was the second of the men’s pairs final for Jon Wynn and Alex Betts from the Caister Community Centre against last year’s winners, Anthony Hoare and Andy Buck of the Sutton Staithe.

Jon and Alex had won the first leg and, when Jon went to the board to start the second, he hit a 130 start and Alex followed with 100, Jon with 45,140 and 36, Alex with 100, 140 and double five for the match – magical.

The evening started with the Second Division Knock-Out Cup final between the Grange and the Martham Vic. The Grange won 2-0.

Next on was the First Division Knock-Out Cup final Caister Community Centre v The Centurion. A disappointing match went to Community Centre 2-0.

The mixed triples final was a Caister CC v Centurion affair once again with Alex, Jon and Maxine Elderfield (CCC) v Keith Markwick, Amanda Jobson and Diana West (Centurion).

Some useful scoring from Keith and Amanda wasn’t enough and the Caister trio ran out 2-0 winners. Star player was Maxine.

The mixed doubles saw husband and wife Andy and Veronica Buck of the Sutton Staithe run out 2-0 winners against Danny Connor and Pat Mckay (Caister CC B).

The second leg was a great one for Andy as he hit two consecutive 140s.

The ladies’ pairs final was between Lisa Garman and Kerry Jobson of the Centurion v Beth and Diana Harrison (the Grange).

Beth and Diana just couldn’t get their game together and it was Lisa and Kerry who both played well, who won the match.

In the men’s pairs final, although Andy Buck and Anthony Hoare (Sutton Staithe) were in it in the first leg, they ended up well beaten 2-0 by Jon and Alex (Caister CC).

Lisa and Kerry returned to the stage, this time to face each other in the ladies’ singles final. Lisa, with scores of 95, 80, 100 and 180 over the two legs, deservedly won it 2-0. Kerry, who is a terrific talent, just couldn’t get going.

The final match was the men’s singles final, Richie Underhill (Caister CC) v Martin Galea (The Grange).

Martin came out of the blocks the fastest and deservedly took the first leg. Back came Richie to level it at 1-1. In the third and final leg it was “double trouble”. Martin was off straight away, but Richie was at the oche five times before he would hit a double to start, trailing by 285 points. Richie must have thought his chance of the title had gone.

But incredibly, Martin had five visits himself to the oche for a double finish, and each time he missed. This allowed Richie back into it and he made no mistake, hitting double nine for the match.
