Great Yarmouth scored two second half goals to come away from Humber Doucy Lane with an excellent win on Friday evening.

The Bloaters were without injured Adie Ager, still suffering from the effects of a clash of heads sustained in the FA Cup tie with Basildon.

However, there was a welcome return for Joel Glover and Aaron Sanders for a match against a side who were looking for their first win.

The home side got off to the best start possible as Ryan Swift found himself in space inside the visitors’ penalty area and his driven cross was deflected into his own net by Kyle Howell.

The visitors, stung by the early setback, then fought their way back into the game as Joel Glover fired in a shot and moments later Sean Perfect also drifted a shot narrowly wide after a good spell of possession.

The Bloaters’ best chances of the half came in a five minute period before half-time as first Haydn Davis’ corner was cleared off the line and then Mitch Forbes’ powerful drive was well saved.

A half-time change for the Bloaters saw Howell replaced by youngster Miles Palmer at right back. Immediately Glover almost broke through the home defence, but was hauled back for a free kick, as the determined visitors went searching for an equaliser. They didn’t have to wait too much longer as in the 52nd minute Charlie Bartram found himself some space and his pass into Davis set the winger free and he rifled in a 20 yarder to put the Bloaters level.

With almost 60 minutes up the Bloaters sent on Aaron Sanders to replace Bartram in an attacking substitution which would prove pivotal.

With the clock ticking down to 80 minutes, the impressive Daniel Thrower was about to shoot but Sam Applegate stole the ball on the edge of the penalty area and strode out of defence and played a firm pass into Glover whose clever dummy fooled the defender and allowed Davis to home in goal.

He fired in a powerful shot that keeper Spurling got a hand to, but couldn’t prevent from finding the net, to score what proved to be the winning goal for the visitors.
