GREAT Yarmouth's top kickboxer Bin Tyler enjoyed a day of celebration at the Ocean Room.

Not only did he capture the WKA European professional lightweight kickboxing title with a stunning second-round knockout win over Poland's Daniel Naliwikjo - but after winning the title in front of 700 local fans and 60 travelling Polish supporters, Bin got on one knee and proposed to long-term girlfriend Shivonne. And she said yes!

In the fight, Bin won the first cagey opening round with his hard, accurate leg kicks punishing the Pole's thighs. He also landed a hard right cross at the end of the round that rocked Naliwikjo, who had beaten several English fighters previously.

In the second round Bin landed a series of low kicks, staggering the Polish fighter, then a low kick-head-kick combination put him on the canvas for a count of eight. The fight resumed and Bin, an excellent finisher when he knows his opponent is in trouble, knocked Naliwikjo down with a powerful leg kick. The Pole didn't beat the count, and amid wild celebrations from the huge Yarmouth crowd the long-serving British champion Bin Tyler was declared European champion.

He thanked his coach Dave Munro, who has been coaching him for 21 years since the age of nine, for all his hard work, and his boxing coaches John Hutchins and Frank Crosswell for their help. He will take a well-earned break now from his twice-a-day training schedule, then will be challenging for the world title next year.

Overall the Three Lions kickboxing team won 10 bouts and had one draw out of 14 bouts in the show.

Liam Plant was in fine form, having an amazing two full-contact bouts in one evening, having stepped in for someone who pulled out at the last minute. He beat Ipswich's Steve Lane on points in a kickboxing bout, then an hour later he beat Cambridge's Craig Essy. He knocked him down in the first round with a body kick for an eight count, then in the second round he knocked out Essy with a right cross, winning by knockout.

Arron Monson boxed superbly behind his jab, winning on points against tough, powerful Johnny Ellis from Bury. Conor Judge (14) looked very sharp with his jabs and right crosses, winning the Eastern Counties junior U50 kilos area Thaiboxing title from Ely's Brandon Weller, the son of former world champion Mark Weller.

There was Eastern Counties joy for Tommy Bracken (seven) too, as he out-pointed Ipswich's Tommy Purdey (eight) for the WKA Cadet U28 kilo area kickboxing title.

There were also wins for Connor McHugh (seven), Jack Docherty (14), Ben Mitchell (13), Lowestoft's Luca McComb (seven) - who gave an outstanding performance in his junior Thaiboxing bout and brought 50 supporters from Lowestoft to cheer him on to victory.

Dylan Lopes (eight) was awarded a draw but looked to have shaded the first two rounds. Dave Carson was up against it fighting Ely's very tall Matt Tumber in a cruiserweight bout. Tumber, who was 10 inches taller than Carson, still struggled with the Yarmouth man's aggression and leg kicks but took the bout on points. Carson will be coming down a couple of weight categories where coach Frank Crosswell feels he will be a force to be reckoned with.

Shock of the day was little Nicky McHugh (eight) who looked to have edged every round against Harleston's Jordan Goodswin - who Nicky had beaten twice previously - but the judges awarded the bout to Goodswin on a split decision.

Three Lions would like to thank everyone for sponsoring and attending the event and look forward to seeing everyone again in April.
