THE Great Yarmouth International football team are starting to see their sporting dreams come true by becoming the Great Yarmouth and District League second division champions for this season.

But their dreams became even greater when the team was recently invited to take part in the UMBRO World Tournament International Cup.

This event has become a major tournament and sees 500 teams from all over the world compete in Manchester in July and August - but the total cost is around £5,000.

The GY International team (pictured) are now desperately seeking support and sponsorship to allow them to take part in this prestigious competition.

The team was founded in October, 2005 after a few local community groups got together for a mini international football tournament during the celebrations of Black History Month, with players hailing from Poland, Portugal, Brazil, East Timor, Angola as well as two home-grown players.

Last season the team was invited to play in the Great Yarmouth and District League (Division Two) for the first time, finishing high up.

Since then the team has gone from strength to strength with many achievements under its belt, including being Norfolk Primary Cup quarter-finalists and also Wiltshire Cup quarter-finalists.

The team also participate in the local Unity Cup, a match played between the Norfolk Constabulary and the international community in Great Yarmouth - part of the Kick Racism out of Football campaign - organised by the Norwich and Norfolk Racial Equality Council.

Thanks to the local Community Chest and Community Champions grants, the GY International team has managed to get where it is today, but it is now looking for official sponsorship.

If any organisation or business is interested in finding out how to support the team, please contact team secretary Julia Dyson on 01493 851598 or 07876206762 at any time.

The team would really appreciate any interest and support.
