THE East Anglian car recycling novelty nights series reached round two on Sunday at the Yarmouth Stadium with the banger drivers racing small vans, writes Graham Utting.
Yarmouth's Steven Sipka led the majority of the opening race until mechanical failure forced him to pull out. Gorleston's Barry Beevor took up the running but after a challenge from Yarmouth's Matthew Brown, Hopton's Bob Ballard took the win.
The main race, the Delivery Drivers Championship, saw Brown suffer mechanical problems, leaving the way clear for Ballard to take the flag and take the title he won at the track six years ago and go top of the points in the series. Brown had a race win and outlasted Beevor to take the destruction derby.
Bryson Walker (Ormesby) took both the heat races towards qualifying for the Norfolk Gold Cup Series final. The final was led by Joanna Annison until a last-lap challenge by George Boult saw her spun out, Boult taking the flag with Walker second.
Headlining the bill this Sunday 6.30pm it's the 1300cc stock cars East Anglian Championship with world champion Mark Whybra expected. The bangers are back in action in regular cars and there's rookie rod action too.
