Students and staff of East Norfolk Sixth Form College celebrated yet another successful year of sport.

East Norfolk’s annual Sports Awards evening recognises the hard work that students, staff and senior management put in to make sport possible, and the great success they enjoy because of this.

Students, staff and sponsors attended the event at Great Yarmouth Racecourse, with over 50 trophies presented in 10 different sports.

The biggest awards of the night were the Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year Awards, recognising talent, dedication and success across a range of sports.

These were awarded to Gabi King and Luke Bailey respectively. This year also saw the presentation of a new award, set up in honour of the recently retired Principal Laurie Poulson.

The ‘Laurie Poulson Award for Giving to Sport’ was awarded to Jed Tearle and Hayden Yates for the amount of time and enthusiasm they invest in sport at East Norfolk Sixth Form College.

Sportsman of the Year, Luke, said: ‘It was a really good night and was topped off when I won the Sportsman award, I feel so proud.’

Gabi, Sportswoman of the Year, said: “I really enjoyed the night, spending it with all the girls from the team, and to top it off I won Sportswoman of the Year’.

Head of PE at the College, Steve Mooney summarised the mood of the evening by announcing that the college had won the Clifford Dixon Trophy, an award for the highest achieving college for sport in the East region, for the 6th successive year.

He commented: ‘This evening has been a fantastic celebration of our students and staff. They work hard all year to achieve their successes and fully deserve the praise and awards they have received. We are very proud to have such a good group of students who are so willing to sacrifice time and energy towards sport at the college.”
