Great Yarmouth And District Football League

DIVISIONAL league cups again took centre stage and moved closer to the semi-finals stages.

In the HA Holmes League Cup, in group one, Albion got off the mark with three points with a resounding 14-0 win over Caister United A. Albion had eight different scorers as they collected the points.

MK United, meanwhile, bounced back from the previus week to win 4-2 at Yarmouth United. The result means that only an Albion win against Catfield in three weeks’ time can prevent MK going through.

In group two, GY International have all but booked a place in the semi-finals with a 6-0 win at Feathers. This result means only a heavy defeat in their last game will see them go out.

In the Burgess Cup for Division Two clubs, in group one Belton moved closer to the semi-finals with a 3-1 win over Carpathians. The home side have been impressive of late and are still in contention for four trophies, including the Norfolk Primary Cup.

Arches, meanwhile, also collected three priceless points as they defeated Caister CC 2-1. Caister CC, the leaders of Division Two, could be in danger of going out as they face Belton this week knowing they cannot really afford a defeat.

In group two, Wellington recorded a cracking 7-0 win at Martham A This means Wellington are still in with a shout of reach the semi-finals, providing they win their last two group games.

In the league, Catfield moved six points clear at the top of Division One, but not before a scare as Peelers led 2-0 at one stage. However, a Pillar hat-trick and Adam Hodds secured a 4-2 win.

Bohemians meanwhile suffered a setback in their title charge as they were defeated at home by a resurgent Norfolk n Chance 1-0, who are under a new manager who has brought three or four players in. The team looks greatly improved.

In Division Two, MK United Reserves overcame a stubborn Prostar windows 4-1 on Gorleston Rec to move up to fifth while South Yarmouth also recorded a fine win by a 6-3 score-line at home to Caister Youth.

There are just four points separating clubs from second down to seventh.
